     Jeremiah Bumpas was born on 24 August 1692 in Rochester, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.¹ He married Jane Lovell, daughter of Andrew Lovell, on 15 November 1722.¹ Jeremiah probably died on 31 December 1770 in Wareham, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.¹
     

     Jeremiah was a farmer and was called Leiutenant in 1748. He was the first selectman of Wareham in 1739 and joined the church in 1739. He was moderator in 1742 and 1752, served as juryman in 1745, 1748, and 1753. He was selectman in 1739 to 1744, 1750, 1751, and 1753. He was on the meeting house committee in 1739 and was fish commissioner in 1746, 1748, and 1753. Jeremiah received one-quarter interest in his father's saw mill.

     Jesse Bumpass was born circa 1786.¹ He married Molly Clements on 3 February 1812.¹

     Job Bumpas was born before 29 April 1683 in New Plymouth Colony. He was baptized on 29 April 1683 2nd Church in Scituate, New Plymouth Colony.¹ Job married first Abigail ?.¹ Job married second Martha ?.¹ Job died between 5 September 1746 and 10 September 1746 in New River, Onslow Co., North Carolina.¹
     

     Job went south after the death of his father. He is mentioned in Onslow Co., North Carolina about 1730. He obtain land grants from King George III on the New and North Rivers as did his son Cornelius and cousin George Bumpas. There was a New England Colony planted on the lower Cape Fear River in North Carolina in 1660. Connection was maintained between this colony and New England by coast vessels resulting in constant trading.

     In Grimes abstract of wills in North Carolina up to 1760, the only entry is Job Bumpas of Onslow Co., NC, Sept. 6 1746-Oct.. 1746: To David 200 acres on north side of New River; Cornelius 300 acres with grist mill; John 320 acres on south side of New River; Abigail Lewis, dau. Executors: David and Cornelius, sons. A witness was Tabas Bumpus. There is no indication as to which of his wifes were the mother of his children.

     John Bumpass was born in 1838 in Tennessee.^1,2
     

     John Bumpass was listed at age 12, born in Tennessee, as a member of the household of Thomas P. Bumpass in Davidson Co., Tennessee, in the Census of 1850, enumerated 9 October 1850.²

     John Bumpass was born in Hanover Co., Virginia.¹ He married Elizabeth Newton.¹ John died circa 1838 in Bumpass, Virginia.¹
     

     John was also known as Jack.

     John probably was born and died near the Independence Church near Ashland, Hanover Co., Va. where he was know as Jack Bumpass, a man of powerful build weighing 320 lbs.

     John Bumpas married Frances Bedford. Information received by e-mail indicates that John Bumpas married Frances Bedford. Also, Lynn Allen Bumpass manuscript indicates that John's brother, Diggs, married a Frances Bedford who was the widow of Robert Bedford. I am not sure whether there were two Frances Bedfords or rather this has been confused..

     John Bumpass was born in 1736.¹ He married Ann Bumpas, daughter of John Bumpas, in 1758.¹ John probably died in 1813 in Person Co., North Carolina.¹
     

     John was also known as Fighting John.

     John made a will on 12 July 1812. John's will:

     I John Bumpass Sr. of the County of Person, state of North Carolina, being weak in body but sound of mind and memory, calling to mind the uncertainty of life, do this 12th day of July 1812 make this my last will and testament and revoke all others.
     I give and bequeth to my daugher Purdence Paine during her natural life and no longer, the tract of land wheron I now live on Deep Creek containing about one hundred and nine acres adjoining the land of Joseph Lunsford and others, and after her death I give and bequeath the said tract of land to my grandson Robert Paine, to him and his heirs forever.
     I give and bequeath to my daughter Prudence Paine, my two negro slaves (to wit) Rachel and Phil, to her my said daugher, and to her assigns and heirs forever.
     I do hereby ratify and confirm all gift and gifts hereto fore absolutely made to my son John Bumpass, and Gabriel or to either of them.
     All the residue of my property I direct to be sold and out of the proceeds thereof all my just debts to be paid and the surplus money from the sales divided between my sons John Bumpass and Gabriel Bumpass and my daughters Molly McVay, Sally Yarbrough, Elizabeth Bumpass and Lucy Jennings.
     Lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint my son John Bumpass and friend Samuel Duken executors to this my last will and testament.
     Given under my hand and seal the day and date before mentioned. Signed and sealed in the presence of Joseph Lunsford, Joseph Lunsford Sr.

     John Bumpass was born on 10 March 1766.¹ He married Elizabeth Bumpass, daughter of John Bumpass and Ann Bumpas.² John died on 2 September 1839 in Person Co., North Carolina, at age 73.¹

     John Bumpas Jr. was born before 28 September 1673 in Middleboro, New Plymouth Colony. John was baptized on 28 September 1673 in Scituate, New Plymouth Colony.¹ He married first Hannah Morey, daughter of Johathan Morey and Mary Bartlett, circa 1694 in Rochester, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.¹ He married second Jane Lovell, daughter of John Lovell and Mary Hatch, on 12 July 1729 in Rochester, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.¹ John died on 22 June 1762 in Rochester, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.¹
     

     John was among the first settlers of Rochester.

     John S. Bumpass was born in 1820 in Tennessee.^1,2 He married Verlinda J. Taliferro, daughter of Baldwin Taliferro and Ann Washington Burwell Spotswood, on 14 December 1837 in Williamson Co., Tennessee.^3,4 John died before October 1865.⁵
     

     John S. Bumpass was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census in Davidson Co., Tennessee. Enumerated were:
          1 white male under 5 (Abram)
          1 white male 30-40 (John)
          1 white female 20-30 (Verlinda).⁶

     In the Census of 1850, enumerated 9 October 1850, John S. Bumpass was listed as a head of household in Davidson Co., Tennessee. He was listed at age 30, occupation as a grocer with property value of $600, born in Tennessee. Also enumerated in the household: Verlinda J. Bumpass, Abram Bumpass and William Bumpass.²

     John Thomas Bumpass was probably born in Hanover Co., Virginia, in 1822.¹ He married Mary Elizabeth Duke, daughter of Garland Duke and Fannie Gibson, on 6 October 1847.¹ John died on 30 May 1884.¹
     

     John was also known as Capt. Tom.

     John was also known as [Capt.] John Thomas Bumpass.

     John Thomas Bumpass was a Captain of the Virginia State Militia. At the outbreak of the Civil Way, Capt. Bumpass was station agent at Bumpass, Virginia (named after him) on the Louisa Railroad which later became the Chesapeak and Ohio Railroad. He was ordered by the Governor to remain at his post and provide wood (fuel) and water to troop trains.

     John Thomas Bumpass Jr. was born on 13 May 1861.¹ He married Mary R. Werner.¹ John died on 1 August 1933 at age 72.¹

     John Bumpas [Sr.] was born on 2 January 1636 in Duxbury, New Plymouth Colony.¹ He married Sarah Hunter circa 1670 in Marshfield, New Plymouth Colony.¹ John died before 7 March 1715/16 in Rochester, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.¹ Conflicting evidence states that he died on 17 May 1716 in Rochester, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.²
     

     John lived at Scituate in 1676 when his house was burned by Indians. He moved to Rochester before 1685. He also resided at Marshfield. He moved to Middleboro from Marshfield and then to Rochester and perhaps again to Middleboro. John took the oath of fidelity at Marshfield in 1657 and made Freeman. He was a farmer.

     His will was proved 7 June 1715 and does not mention Samuel who had already disappeared to the south, nor Zoar. He mentions Job who went south after his father's death.

     The last name of his wife, Sarah, may not be Hunter as some researchers believe.

     Joseph Bumpas was born on 15 February 1639/40 in Duxbury, New Plymouth Colony.¹ He married Wybra or Wiebra Glass, daughter of James Glass and Mary Pontus, circa 1669 in New Plymouth Colony.¹ Joseph died on 10 February 1704 in Middleboro, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts, at age 63.¹
     

     Joseph was a farmer and was one of the original proprietors of the "16 shilling Purchase" of Middleboro, Mass. In 1690 he was in possession of Old Edward Bumpas's land in Middleboro.

     Wiebra was appointed administrator of Joseph's estate in 1705. The estate was settled April 2, 1713 but Wiebra is dead by then. Agreement to divide the estate is signed by James, Penelope, and Mehitabel, children of Joseph and Wiebra.

     Louise Bumpass was born in 1832.¹
