Some researchers have indicated that this Elisha Lawrence of South Carolina is the same Elisha Lawrence born in New Jersey in 1720. However, DNA testing appears to disprove this. If the New Jersey Elisha descends from the Ashton Hall Lawrences as seems to be indicated his descendants would appear to be in Halogroup R1b or R2, whereas, descendants from the Elisha Lawrence in South Carolina have tested to be in Halogroup G2, a completely different line.
