Margaret Florence Lawrence was born on 9 August 1885 in Nashville, Davidson Co., Tennessee.1,2 Margaret died of heart failure caused by diptheria on 30 October 1901 in Nashville, Davidson Co., Tennessee, at age 16.1 She was interred in Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville, Davidson Co., Tennessee.3
Margaret was also known as Maggie.
Maggie was partly paralyzed. According to family tradition provided by Thelma Louise Lawrence, Umma had started to town with baby Maggie. A doctor came along and offered her a ride in a buggy. He stopped along the way to make a house call. While Umma and Maggie were waiting in the buggy, the horse bolted. Umma clutched Maggie to her chest where she had a silver dollar tied around her neck. The silver dollar pressed against Maggie's temple paralyzing her.
The following "Tribute of Respect to the Memory of Maggie Lawrence" was adopted by the East End M. E. Church.

The Sunday School of the East End M. E. Church South, at the regular meeting Sunday, November 10, 1901, the following expressions were adopted:
The relations between friend and friend do not cease with life. Death removes but the body; the effect of a life, the labors, acts, deeds, remain as an example of the good works of the departed. The influence of a Christian life abides with us, memory clings to the name and character, and the forms and faces are impressed on our dearest recollections, and their kindly acts are imprinted on our hearts.
And since it has pleased our Almighty God to call from us, and take to Himself on Wednesday, October 30, 1901, our much-loved friend and member, it is the espression of this Sunday School, that in the death of Maggie Lawrence we have lost a faithful and true member. She has won a warm place in our hearts because of the love and fidelity which she has always shown since she was old enough to attend Sunday School.
While we feel so deeply our loss, yet we know that the influence of her quiet, gentle ways lives with us still, and we look forward to the bright day when she will greet us on the other shore.
And we tender our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family of the deceased, and it is ordered that this memoriam be entered upon our record and a copy of the same be sent to the family of the deceased.4
