The exact birth date of Henry is difficult to determine. Henry is mentioned as a step-son in the will of Robert Lawrence written in 1828. Robert appears to have died around 1834. Henry next appears in the 1850 U. S. Census with Mary Lawrence with his wife and nine children. His age is given as 32 (born ca. 1817/18). Next he appears in the 1860 U. S. Census at age 50 (born ca. 1809/10). In the 1870 U. S. Census the transcriber at Ancestry.com has him at age 13 and head of household. Looking closely at the online image of the census I believe the age could possible be 63 (born ca.1806/07). The 1880 U. S. Census lists Henry at age 71 (born ca. 1808/09). The earliest birth date for Henry according to the census records would appear to be 1806. Samuel Daughtrey Jr., first husband of Henry's mother Mary, died in February 1805. His will did not list Henry as a son. It would appear that Samuel may not be the father of Henry but must be from another relationship that Mary had before she married Robert Lawrence. Or it may be possible that Mary was pregnant with Henry when her husband Samuel died in February 1805 and Henry was born in late 1805.
