Nicholas Lawrence was born circa 1410 at Agercroft, Liecshire, England.2 He married Mary Moore circa 1430.3,2

Schuyler Lawrence, without any real documentary evidence, believes this Nicholas to possibly be the Nicholas Lawrence of Agercroft who had eight sons by his wife Mary and founded lines of some wealth and position, rather than Nicholas, son of Robert Lawrence and brother of Sir James Lawrence as many pedigrees indicate. He believes that Nicholas, brother of Sir James, must have died without issue otherwise the Lawrence lands would have passed through Nicholas instead of through the sisters of Sir James.3

Children of Mary and John:

Narrative

One Rigep Dandulo, a Turk, who had made the aquaintance of Sir John's son at Smyrna, was a frequent visitor to the Lawrence House in 1657, where his conversion to the Christain faith was brought about. This affair seems to have caused some excitement at the time, and an account was written by Dr. Warmstry. The book published in 1658, is dedicated "To the Right Honourable the Countess of Dorset, the Honourable Lord George, and the Worshipful Philip Warwick, Esq., Witnesses at the Baptism of Signoir Dandulo the Convert." Dr. Warmstry was an inhabitant of Chelsea, as he himself tells us: A while after he [the Turk] came again to the Lady Lawrence, of Chelsey, at whose house I happily found him when I came thither one evening to do those observances which I owe unto that worthy Lady (by whose favour I enjoy an habitation as her Tenant in the Towne of Chelsey). The worthy lady in question was May, the second daughter of Sir Thomas Hempson, of Taplow.2

Barnaby McKinnie

#5889, b. after 1665

Major Life Events

Barnaby McKinnie was born after 1665.1 He married Mary ? circa 1693 at Isle of Wight Co., Virginia.2 He married second Mary Ricks, daughter of Jeremiah Exum and Ann Lawrence, circa 1719.3,4

Narrative

Some researchers have indicated that Mary Exum was Barnaby's only wife and mother of his children. However, others have found evidence that there was a first wife also named Mary and that she was the mother of most if not all of his children. A few researchers credit Mary Exum as being the mother of Sarah McKinnie who married Isaac Ricks. However, I think that this is due to not knowing about the first wife name Mary who I believe is actually the mother of Sarah.

Barnaby and Mary Exum moved Bertie County, North Carolina, where he was a Justice of the Peace in 1724, a Judge of the General Court in 1725, and a member of the General Assembly from Edgecomb County in 1735.5. He was a Colonel in the local miltia.6
