     Rebecca Delilah Needles was born on 27 January 1860 at Warren Co., Iowa.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 She married John William Kirkendall on 1 January 1880.1 Rebecca died on 17 May 1937 near Sioux Falls, South Dakota.1 She was interred at Rosehill Cemetery at Parker, Turner Co., South Dakota.1

Narrative

     From The Gospel Messenger, June 26, 1937:
Kirkendall, Rebecca Needles was born to Mary and Erwin Needles in Missouri Jan. 27, 1860 and died May 27, 1937. She moved with her parents to Kansas while a young girl and was married to J. W. Kirkendall in 1880. To this union twelve children were born, two preceding her in death. She united with the Church of the Brethren when quite young and remained steadfast in her faith through life. She and her husband went to South Dakota in 1915. Her husband preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her depature 10 children, 44 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter and later in the Presbyterian church in Parker. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Leona Reeds, Parker, S. Dak.1

Narrative

     From The Gospel Messenger, April 17, 1937:
Kirkendall, John W., son of Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Kirkendall born Jan. 28, 1859 in Iowa and passed away in a Sioux Falls hospital, following an illness of mastoid infection. He with his parents left Iowa during his early childhood and moved to a farm in Kansas. He was baptized and was an active member of the Dunker Brethren church in Independence, Kans. Jan. 1, 1880 he married Rebecca Needles. To this union twelve children were born. In November 1915, he located on a farm near Parker, S. Dak., where he remained until 1936 when he retired and moved near Sioux Falls, where he resided at the time of his death. He leaves his wife, ten children, forty-four grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Funeral services at the Parker Presbyterian church by Rev. Middents and Rev. Tell. burial in the cemetery near Parker. Mrs. J. K. Kirkendall, Parker, S. Dak.1

Needles, Salinda Christiana, daughter of Chris and Salinda Gaus, was born April 3, 1872, at Centerview, Mo., and died Jan. 19, 1951 at her home in Colorado Springs. She was married on Oct. 23 to John Wesley Needles. To this union were born six children. Early in life she became a member of the Church of the Brethren. Her husband preceded her in death in Mary 1935. She is survived by five children, one sister, three brothers, sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Florence B. Reed, Colorado Springs, Colo.1

Narrative

     Her obituary:
Mrs. Leona Needles, 77, of 1607 North Twentieth Street, died Sunday morning in a local hospital following an extended illness.

Mrs. Needles was born on a homestead, four miles south of Star, June 26, 1886. She was married to Dennis S. Needles on March 2, 1903 at Vale. They lived in Boise Valley until 1911, when they moved to Garden Valley. Mr. Needles died in 1942. In 1947 she returned to Boise to live with her daughter, Mrs. Agnes N. Clark.

Surviving are six sons, [Jesse of Yuma, Ariz., Eugene of Stanfield, Ore., Elver of Baker, Ore., George of Boise, Charles of Cascade, and Wilford Needles of Seattle, Wash.], six daughters, and one sister.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p. m. in Summers Chapel with the Rev. Steve Fenn officiating. Interment follows in Morris Hill.

Two children preceded her in death. She also leaves 38 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.1
