     From The Gospel Messenger, September 25, 1948:
Elder John E. Thorne. Son of George M. and Aldula Huffman Thorne, was born in Williams Co., Ohio, Nov. 22, 1881, and died at Fontana, Calif. July 29, 1948. He is survived by his wife, Lois Needles Throne, four daughters, Olive White, Mino Rowley, Mary Pedersen and Eunice Johnson; and a foster son Richard Langley. Bro Throne was elected to the ministry at Ottawa, Kansas, and to the eldership in the La Verne church, Calif; he was active in church work until recently. Services were held at Fontana by the Community church pastor, Rev. Horace Cushing, assisted by Bro. J. E. Steinour of the Bella Vista church, Calif. Interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery, La Verne, Calif. - Grace Hileman Miller, La Verne, Calif.1

William White, 90. Rt. 4. Wapakoneta, died at 2 a.m. today in his home following an extended illness.

Born Sept. 25, 1857, in Union Township (Auglize County), Mr. White had been a carpenter by occupation.

Surviving are one son, W. Myron of Cridersville: one grandson of Cridersville; two brothers, James of Rt. 1, Wapakoneta, and Charles of Rt. 0, Wapakoneta.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Bayliff Funeral Home, Cridersville, where friends may call after 2 p.m. tomorrow.1

UNIOPOLIS, Dec 26-Edwin White, 76, died Monday afternoon in his residence near Uniopolis following an illness of three weeks.

A resident of Uniopolis for many years, he was a member of the Methodist church in St. Johns, and a member of St. Johns Grange.

He is survived by his wife, Alpha, three brothers, William, James, and Charles, all of Wapakoneta Route 6; three sisters, Alice Rinehart, Wapakoneta, Mattie Rigdon, Spencerville, and Emma Faler, Wapakoneta Route 1.

Services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Thursday in the Methodist church in St. Johns with Rev. Oliver, St. Johns pastor, officiating. The body will remain at the residence until time for services. Siferd-Brookhart funeral home of Wapakoneta has charge of arrangements.1

INJURIES CAUSE FARMER'S DEATH
Levi Rinehart of near Waynesfield dies at St. Rita's Hospital.

Levi Rinehart, 58, dies in St. Rita's hospital at 8 p.m. Monday, 8 hours after he was injured in a fall from the roof of a silo at his home 4 miles west of Waynesfield at noon Monday.

Rinehart suffered a fractured skull, compound fractures of the legs, and serious internal injuries.

Charles White, who was assisting Rinehart heard Rinehart fall and found him 85 feet below on the floor of the silo. An ambulance removed him to the hospital here.

Rinehart is survived by a widow and four children, all living on the farm. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.1

Mrs. Rigden, a resident of Jennings Township for over 30 years, was preceded in death by her husband.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. G. Herbert Welford and Miss Ruth Rigden, both of Rt. 2 Spencerville: three grandchildren: three brothers, Charles White, Rt. 6 Wapakoneta, and James and William, both of Rt. 1 Wapakoneta.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the C. B. Miller and Son Funeral Home, Spencerville, with Rev. Maurice Macklin officiating. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery near Converse.

The body will remain at the funeral home where friends may call.1

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Weygandt Funeral Home in Waynesville. The Rev. A. E. Oliver, New Hampshire, will officiate and burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery northwest of Waynesville.1

CHARLES M. WHITE
WAYNESFIELD - Charles M. White, 82, or Rt. 6, Wapakoneta, died at 2:10 p.m. Thursday in Lima Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

Born March 24, 1885, in Auglaize County, he was the son of John R. and Sarah Byerly White. He was married to Della Blank in 1905, and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, E. R. White and Emil, both of Rt. 6, Wapakoneta. A twin brother, James, died in 1963.

He was formerly co-owner of White's Garage and Implement Co.

Services will be Sunday 2 p.m. in McAuley Funeral Home, Rev. Willard Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:30 p.m. today.1

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Bayliff and Sons Funeral Home, Cridersville with Rev. Victor H. Wachs officating and burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Mrs. Leola Wolfe

Leola Byerly was born on the thirteen day of September, in the year. 1886 at Warrenburg, Missouri where she lived the first fifteen years of her life. At an early age she was baptized into the Mineral Creek Church of the Brethren at Leeton, Missouri She has since been a loyal Christian and an active worker in the church. In 1901 Leola Byerly moved to Coyle, Oklahoma, where six sears later she was united in! marriage with Frank A. Wolfe to whom she was a devoted wife for twenty-five years. In 1918 the Wolfes moved to the State Canter District near Jones where they resided , until death. Mr. Wolfe passed away on November 12, 1932. Mrs. Wolfe peaceably passed away to her reward while at rest in the Wesley hospital in Oklahoma City at 4:55 a. m. the third day of May, 1945 at the age of 58 years, seven months and thirteen days.

She is survived by one sister, Miss Marietta Byerly of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, and one brother, Sharon Byerly of Fowler, Colorado. As a most faithful mother she gave birth to seven children all living: Leonard, Ernest, Alta Mae and Miriam of Jones, Oklahoma; Mrs. Lenora Jones, of Oklahoma. City, Mrs. Lavonia Smith of Jones, and Mrs. Lovelle Young of Loredo, Texas. Texas. There are 13 living grandchildren.1

Root, Sister Ada Frances, born in Johnson County, Mo, died Dec. 9, 1932, aged 43 years. She was the daughter of John A. and Elizabeth Byerly. Her father preceded her ten years ago. She united with the Church of the Brethren in 1901 and in 1927 affiliated with the Dunkard Brethren at Elk City, Okla. Nov 29, 1911 she married John J. Root. To this union were born six daughters and three sons. She also leaves her mother, one brother and two sisters. Since coming to California in the fall of 1928 her health had been failing. A few days before the end she called for the anointing service. Burial in the Modesto cemetery. Services by S. S. Garst and Victor O. Whitmer. Mrs. Nellie Whitmer, Waterford, Calif.1

     MARIETTA BYERLY Obituary:
Marietta Byerly, born July 5, 1894 to John and Elizabeth in Warrensburg, Missouri, and deceased December 24, 1974 in the Oakhill Nursing Home, Jones, Okla.

As a child she moved with her parents to Payne County, Oklahoma, near Coyle. In the early 1900's she and her family moved to Elk City where she attended school. After high school she taught grade school in the Elk City area before entering McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas. Following college graduation, with a degree in Home Economics, she taught in the Hillsboro, Kansas High School for 3 years. The next couple of years she attended school to obtain her Masters Degree in Home Economics and her certification in Dietetics.

Most of her teaching has been in college in the Home Economics department. She taught in the Junior Colleges in Warner and Poteau and began in Murray State College in Tishomingo in 1937 and retired after 23 years.

Early in life her goal was to make a dedicated contribution to the educational field in which she spent 40 years teaching. Her desire was to inspire and encourage youth to prepare for life that they too could make a contribution to others. She was especially interested and continually encouraged her nieces and nephews to seek an education that would better prepare themselves for life.

Miss Byerly was active in Community life. She was a member and served as an officer in the local Chapter and a State Officer of the Business Professional Women's Club. She served as sponsor and officer in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society at Murray State and also in the State Society.

In her girlhood her life was committed to serving Christ. She united with the Church of the Brethren. Through life, serving and witnessing for Jesus Christ was a daily part of her life. Each Sunday, where ever she may be found her in Church as a Sunday School teacher singing in the Choir and giving thanks for God's great love and goodness. She was a devout Christian and loved and respected by all with whom she came in contact. Upon moving to Tishomingo she became a member of the Methodist Church and was an active and faithful member and worker.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Hazel Byerly Fowler, Colorado and 21 niece and nephews and a host of friends.1

Well Known Farmer,
Passed Away Sunday

Frank A. Wolfe, well known farmer who had resided in the State Center district for fourteen years, died Sunday at a hospital in Oklahoma City. He was 46 years old.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday at the church at Choctaw, followed by burial in the Odd Fellows cemetery near Jones. The pastor of the Church of the Brethren of Oklahoma City, officiated at the services.

Frank A. Wolfe, son of Daniel and Amanda Wolfe, was born in Cherokee county, Kansas, December 31, 1885; died November 12, 1932 in Oklahoma City, where he had been taken for treatment, being 46 years, 10 months and 13 days old. Death was caused by heart trouble.

He came with his parents to Payne County, Oklahoma, in 1891, living on the homestead farm until he was 21 years old when he was joined in marriage to Leola Byerly. In 1918 he with his family and parents settled in the State Center district southeast of Jones, where they still reside.

He is survived by his wife, Leola Wolfe; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Wolfe; five daughters, Leonora. Lavonia, Lovella, Alta May and Marion; two sons, Leonarl L. and Ernest M. Wolfe, and a host of friends,

In youth he united with the Church of the Brethren, and lived faithful to his church to the end.

Mr. Wolfe was a good Christian gentleman, and the community extends its deepest sympathy to the bereaved relatives.1

Emmert, on 29 November 1911 at Elk City, Beckham Co., Oklahoma.1 Clarence died on 1 November 1969 at Empire, Stanislaus Co., California, at age 77.1 He was interred on 5 November 1969 at Wood Colony Cemetery at Modesto, Stanislaus Co., California.1

Narrative

     Obituary from The Vindicator, December 1969:
Root, John James, son of Joseph Allen and Emma Adaline (Bastin) Root, was born March 24, 1892, near Carthage Jasper Co., Missouri. He was united in marriage to Ada Frances Byerly at Elk City, Oklahoma on Nov. 29, 1911. To this union were born 3 sons and 6 daughters. In Dec. 1928, he with his family moved to Waterford, California, where his wife departed this life on Dec. 9, 1932. In spite of many hardships, he continued to make a home for his children. On Jan 20, 1934, he was joined in marriage to Louise Egli. To them were born l son and l daughter.

At an early age, he gave his life to his Lord by the rite of Christian baptism which was a great comfort to him during the many years of a fruitful life. On Nov. 5, 1939, he was received into the fellowship of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, to which he remained faithful until death. During his long illness he was anointed with oil in the name of the Lord which helped him to bear with patience the afflicitions of the final days of his life. He departed this life at his home in Empire Californa on Nov l, 1969 at the age of 77 years 7 months and 8 days.

Besides his loving companion he is survived by 4 sons: 5 daughters: 1 brother 37 grandchildren, 24 great- grandchildren. Preceding him in death were 2 daughters, Mina Andrews and Elizabeth Gish and l great-granddaughter, Celia Bowman.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. in the Tuolumne meeting house by Elders Lloyd Miller, Joseph Rumble, Howard Oyler and Stanley Filbrun, whose text was 2 Tim 4:6-8 from which he spoke to edification, exhortation and comfort. Hymns selected by the family were 452,456, and 451, In the Wood Colony cemetery, as the body was laid to rest, we sang hymns 499, 455, and 457, after which we were comforted by the words of Bro Harold Miller, who reminded us that he whose lips had long been silenced by the hand of affliction would again be employed in singing eternal praises to the Savior. The service was concluded with prayer.1
