Narrative

Joel was very difficult to find in the 1880 and 1900 U. S. Census. In the 1880 census he is listed as Joseph L. Manhing by who ever did the indexing. Looking at the orginal it appears that it is Joseph L. Mankey. Why he gave that name is unknown. In the 1900 census he is listed as Adam Mankey. In the 1910 through 1930 census he is listed at Joel. Comparing all of these entries I am certain that the individual listed as Joseph L. in 1880 and Adam in 1900 is indeed Joel.
